Super-Bowl Prize: Student Council started a new tradition for OCS regarding the Super-Bowl. Student Council sponsored a school-wide Super Bowl contest. Students from all classes had the chance during lunch had the chance to predict who they thought would win the Super Bowl and what the winning score would be. The student that guessed the winning team and the score most accurately won a $25 gift card of their choice. Jaxon Baxter won guessing the most accurate score, 34-20. Spirit Week: Student Council used a survey to ask OCS students about ideas they had for spirit week. This was the first time the Student Council used a survey to help establish school spirit days. This gave high school students more say and an opportunity to offer input. Although Student Council was not able to make Spirit Week 5 days this year, it was mentioned in the Principal’s Cabinet meeting and we are exploring this possibility for next year and upcoming years. Another new part of spirit week is the school spirit contest. This year classes can compete to see what class shows the most school spirit. The class that has the highest percentage of participation for each spirit theme day wins. Each member of the winning class will get a free snack/ice cream pass to the school cafeteria. Student Council and teachers will count/calculate the winning class daily to be announced each day with the winning class announced at the pep rally Friday. This is different than in previous years because it is no longer based on homerooms. The reasoning is that people are more tied to their class compared to their room, competing for their class to win will further incentive participation. Spirit Week Activities: Wednesday- Talent Show Thursday- Hypnotist Friday- Assembly in the morning & Spirit Week in the afternoon Spirit Days Monday- Merica Monday Tuesday- Favorite Character Day (Movie/TV Show) Wednesday- Western Wednesday Thursday- Favorite Sports Team Day Friday- Class Color Day Class Colors: 7th Grade– Orange 8th Grade– Red Freshman- Blue Sophomores– White Juniors– Black Seniors– Green Pep Rally: The pep rally activities this year are Hungry Hippo and a Trivia Game, that based on OCS facts. For Hungry Hippo, each of the five varsity teams will select two members to represent them. They will push students out on a scooter to collect balloons with a laundry basket. Whichever team as the most balloons when time out wins. The Trivia game will include a teacher and two students representing each grade. The Trivia game will involve different OCS trivia questions. Blood Drive: The Spring Blood Drive is on Monday, March 2. Student Council was able to schedule this between winter and spring sports seasons so more athletes can participate in the Blood Drive.
