Supreme Court Upholds Wall Construction In July 2019 the Supreme Court ruled that that President Trump could proceed with the constriction of the border wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The following are some statutes that uphold the lawfulness and constitutionality of President Trump’s National Emergency Declaration that authorized wall construction. The Brennan Center for Justice found 136 statutory laws that support the National Emergency Declaration including Section 2808 of the Emergencies Act of 1976 allows the “undertake military construction projects not otherwise authorized by law that are necessary to support such use of the armed forces” and Section 10 284 on the U.S. code gives military authority to build barriers to fight drug cartels. Furthermore, Article II Section II of the Constitution gives the President power as the Commander-in-Chief to direct the military at all times. Since 1976 Presidents have declared 60 national emergencies. Currently there are 32 ongoing national emergencies, most of which are need even crises in the U.S. but instead in foreign countries. The emergencies consist of declarations dealing with Nicaragua, Sudan, Libya and Yemen. Similarly, in 1995 President Clinton issued a national emergency declaration so he could act against drug traffickers in Columbia relating to the heroin epidemic (NPR). Cartel Violence Near the Border Nine American citizens living in Mexico near the U.S. were brutally murdered execution style by a drug cartel. This included two eight-month old twins. There were eight survivors which included a nine-month and a four-year-old who were shot. The exact location of this ambush was only 75 miles from the U.S. border in La Mora in the Sonora State of Mexico. The family living there was a fundamentalist Mormon group. This renews calls for more border security and a wall as cartel violence is close to the U.S. border. President Trump should designate drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. Others have gone further calling for targeted drone strikes against the cartel which likely be effective but cause a tension between the U.S. and Mexico (NBC News). Illegal Immigrant Charged with DUI Previously Released in CNY Illegal immigrant, Heriberto R. Perez-Velasquez, 31, is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala was arrested for hitting and killing Mark Knapp while driving drunk. Knapp leaves behind a wife and three daughters. A month before this tragedy, Perez-Velasquez was arrested for drunk driving and was released by Wayne County officials instead of being turned to ICE to be deported. In May 2007 Perez-Velasquez was already arrested by Border Patrol for crossing the border illegally and was deported. It is unknown when he illegally re-crossed the border. Government Sponsored Prison Jail Break A gang leader of the Latin Kings, Joel Francisco, was convicted for being a drug dealer. However, he was among the first round of criminals released from jail under the criminal justice reform bill, named the First Step Act signed into law by President Trump. Now after being released, Francisco is charged with manslaughter. In fact, within two weeks he violated terms of his parole by testing positive in a drug test (Providence Journal). Booming Economy In November the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged breaking 28,000 points for the first time, a new record. In addition, job growth beat expectations with 128,000 jobs being created. Unemployment continued to be a record low of 3.6%, indicating a strong economy (CNBC). -In the United States, there are four towns named “Turkey.” They are found in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and North Carolina. -The average number of calories consumed on Thanksgiving is 4,500. -More than 100,000 turkey-cooking questions are called into the Butterball Turkey Hotline each November and December. -Football became a tradition on Thanksgiving in 1876 with a game between Yale and Princeton. NFL did not join in on the tradition until 1920. -More than 54 million Americans are expected to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday this year. -The woman behind "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is also responsible for Thanksgiving's recognition as a national holiday. The writer and editor Sarah Josepha Hale convinced President Abraham Lincoln to officially declare Thanksgiving a national holiday. -The very first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade did not feature any balloons. Instead it featured animals from the Central Park Zoo. -In 1939, Thanksgiving was celebrated on the third Thursday in November, instead of the fourth. -A Thanksgiving mix-up inspired the first TV dinners. In 1953, a Swanson employee accidentally ordered a shipment of Thanksgiving turkeys that was 260 tons of turkey. To get rid of all the food, a salesman Gerry Thomas, got his idea from the prepared foods served on airplanes. He came up with the idea of filling 5,000 aluminum trays with the turkey, 98% of these prepared meals were a hit with American families. -About 46 million turkeys are cooked each year. Some will consume 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving. -Only male turkeys have the ability to gobble. -Turkeys are partially named after the country. During the time of the Ottoman Empire, a bird called the guinea fowl, which has a strong resemblance to the American turkey was imported to Europe from its native North Africa. Because the birds came from Turkish lands, Europeans called them turkey-cock and turkey-hen. When settlers came to America, they began sending similar-looking birds back to Europe, they called them turkeys out of familiarity. -8 out of 10 Americans prefer the Thanksgiving seconds over their first helping. -50 million pumpkin pies are eaten on Thanksgiving. It is September 1620, the Mayflower left Plymouth, England, there were 102 passengers. Most are seeking religious tolerance in a new land, all of whom lured in by the promise of prosperity. Their journey lasted an agonizing 66 days, leading them to drop their anchor near the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They landed far from their intended destination which was the mouth of the Hudson. A month later, who are now known as Pilgrims ended up in Massachusetts, establishing the village of Plymouth. The coming winter would be harsh, brutal, extremely cold, deadly, and disease would spread wildly around the villagers home. Only half will survive until spring. In March, a Native American man named Squanto would teach the weakened and malnourished Pilgrims how to cultivate corn, extract sap from maple trees, catch fish in the rivers and avoid poisonous plants. He would help the settlers forge an alliance with the Wampanoag, a local tribe, which would endure for more than 50 years. This would lead to America’s “first Thanksgiving”, while that term was most likely not used, the festival lasted for three days.
Now, centuries later, every November we still celebrate the Pilgrims success. The Wampanoags and the Pilgrims' harmonious relationship is the soul reason for the celebration of Thanksgiving which was first celebrated on Thursday, November 28, 1621. During the Revolutionary War, historians believe that their actual menu considered of lobster, seal, and swan. It is also likely that the Pilgrims used Native American spices and cooking methods. The Pilgrims also had no oven and their sugar supply was most likely dwindled down to almost nothing, so the meal would not have consisted of desserts like pies and cakes. This is now a hallmark of our modern traditions. Parades have also become a momentous part of the holiday in cities and towns across the United States. Presented by Macy’s department store since 1924, New York City’s Thanksgiving Day parade is the largest and most famous, attracting some 2 to 3 million spectators along its 2.5-mile route. The parade draws the attention of millions of people across the country. For some, the events surrounding the first Thanksgiving is a controversial historical topic. Some historians can not decide on whether the feast at Plymouth really constituted the first Thanksgiving in the United States, even though there are historical records of ceremonies among European settlers in North America that predate the Pilgrims’ celebration. Surprisingly enough, Thanksgiving has some Ancient origins. Egyptians, Greeks and Romans celebrated their gods after the fall harvest. Thanksgiving also can show resemblance to the ancient Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot. Native Americans had a rich tradition of commemorating the fall harvest with feasting much before Europeans set foot on their land. Many wonder why we eat Turkey if the Pilgrims did not eat turkey. The tradition follows after Alexander Hamiliton when he said "No citizen of the U.S. shall refrain from turkey on Thanksgiving Day." However, a more sensible reason why we eat turkey is that so many families feast on Thanksgiving and a Turkey will feed all your hungry guests in a more economical manor. Chicken, beef, pork, and steak can be more expense and come from animals that perform other duties like produce milk and lay eggs, while Turkeys do neither. According theory to why we eat turkey is that, Queen Elizabeth I received news of a fleet of Spanish ships on their way to England that sank. This was during the 16th century. She received the news while eating dinner. She was so thrilled that she ordered another goose to be served. Some historians say the early settlers were inspired by the queen's actions and roasted a turkey, a native and plentiful bird. It is doubtful that Pilgrims ate cranberry sauce for sugar was a delicacy but cranberries were very prominent. The Pilgrims most likely ate cranberries. Sweet or white potatoes were not available during in the area in 1621 so those were not on the menu. President Trump is the top law-enforcement agent as President and should encourage any foreign nation to cooperate with the DOJ. In addition, the media neglects to give the context that President Zelensky was an underdog candidate elected on cleaning up corruption similar to President Trump being elected to “Drain the Swamp” so these two leaders collaborating on rooting out corruption is only logical. Democrats in Congress claim that foreign aid to Ukraine was withheld unless the Ukrainians cooperated with Trump known as “Quid Pro Quo” which is illegal. However, President Zelensky denies he was pressured by Trump to give him “dirt” on Biden. Furthermore, Acting Ambassador to Ukraine Bill Taylor testified to Congress that Ukraine did not even know that aid was being withheld. A more plausible explanation to any hold-up with Ukraine aid, is that President Trump ran on “America First” and is an opponent of foreign aid, meaning him being skeptical of giving aid to a country is not surprising. Ukraine was rated one of the most corrupt countries by Ernst and Young, so any money granted to that country needs to be thoroughly reviewed.
The whistleblower for this phone call did not even hear the phone-call firsthand account of the phone-call but a third hand account based on hearsay. Furthermore, the whistleblower is a partisan Democrat that worked for Joe Biden when he was Vice President. The whistleblower hired partisan, liberal lawyers. For example, the lead counsel Andrew Bakaj has worked for Democrats Hillary Clinton, Senator Chuck Schumer and former Senator Moynihan. The co-consul Mark Zaid is part of the anti-Trump “Resistance” tweeting as early as 2017 “#coup has started. First of many steps. #rebellion. #impeachment will follow ultimately. #lawyers”. You can see the tweet here. Even more egregious, the whistleblower before filing the report went to Democrat, Intelligence Committee Chair, Adam Schiff to talk about the phone-call. This suggests an orchestrated plot against the President, since Congressman Adam Schiff has been dead set on impeachment since day one. Congressman Schiff lacks credibility because when the Mueller Report was still private, he said the report showed “Russian Collusion which first of all isn't a crime and the report, in fact, showed no crime of any sort. As for Biden's, while Joe Biden was Vice President and head of Ukraine relations for the Obama Administration, his son Hunter Biden was receiving $83,000 a month as a board member of corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Then Biden even admitted that he withheld $1 billion loan guarantee unless the Special Prosecutor, investigating Burisma was fired. This Special Prosecutor was fired and in turn the loan guarantee was cleared. You can see Biden’s own words here. It’s also worth noting that Hunter Biden only has this job since his father was Vice President. He had no qualifications in Ukraine or energy and was discharged from the military for cocaine use. In other words, President Trump is now being attacked for investigating the corruption of Joe Biden. The hypocrisy of this story is that there is a video of then President Obama telling a Russian diplomat to tell Putin that he is more flexible after the election. The media also neglects to report that President Trump has already had policies that were more Ukraine than Obama. Most notably, President Trump approved the sale of lethal military weapons to Ukraine, including anti-tank/Javelin missiles to help defend Ukraine from Russia. In 1999-2000 former President Bill Clinton signed a treaty with Ukraine to establish cooperation on legal and criminal matters between the two nations. This is a further justification of President Trump seeking assistance from Ukraine to investigate corruption since there is a legal precedent. The House of Representatives voted to open an impeachment inquiry into President Trump 232-196. This marks the first ever partisan inquiry. Actually, there was bipartisan opposition to opening an impeachment inquiry with two Democrats voting against the resolution to open an impeachment inquiry and all Republicans voting against the inquiry. In 1998 31 Democrats voted to open an impeachment inquiry into Bill Clinton and in 1974 the House of Representatives voted 410-4 to open an impeachment inquiry into Richard Nixon. Undoubtedly, House Democrats have ended the tradition on impeachment being bipartisan and based on “high crimes and misdemeanors”. In the meantime, the promises Democrats made to voters in the 2018 elections on healthcare and infrastructure remain unachieved. The first Pilgrims were 102 passengers on the Mayflower. There were 74 males and 28 females. They were Congregationalists seeking religious freedom and an escape from persecution in England. Today, we refer to Congregationalists as Puritans. Puritans thought that the Church of England was too similar to the Catholic Church. The Puritans wanted to reform the Church of England and in their mind “purify” the Church of England/Anglican Church from Catholic influence. Puritans were against all rituals and ceremonies not mentioned directly in the Bible. The Puritans did not have any rituals, formal prayers, or statements of beliefs. Some Puritans saw the Church of England as impossible to fix and wanted to completely separate from the Church of England. These people were called separatists. Of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower, 37 were separatists. Many of these separatists initially fled England for the Netherlands, but were unhappy there too. Once many Puritans were settled in England, some of them adopted new cultural customs. The Puritans thought no one could live alone; everyone had to live with someone else so they would have someone to watch over them. The Puritans also believed they were chosen by God, hence people should follow them. Since they believed they were chosen by God, the Puritans could justify any of their actions with that line. Puritans believed in Predestination: the notion that God chose some people to go to Heaven and others to go to Hell before birth. Puritans were hard-workers known for the “Protestant Work-Ethic” where hard-work, frugality and marriage were key to a successful, happy life. This foundation of hard-work, instilled in America early-on, would become key to our development and prosperity throughout history. october-25th-2019.htmlThis is a follow-up story from the article in the Fall Edition The New Evil Empire: China’s War on the United States and Freedom.
